US jets struck four Iranian air-defence sites near the strait of Hormuz on 9-10 June, on President Trump's direct order. An AH-64 Apache helicopter had gone down nearby earlier that day. Targets included Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas, Sirik and Jask.
These were the first American strikes on Iranian soil since the war began in February. Trump invoked self-defence without congressional authorisation, days after the House voted 215-208 to wind down US involvement .
