Background

Iran's IRGC named Juffair, the Manama district housing the US Fifth Fleet headquarters, in its 9 July 2026 reprisal list following a second US strike wave in 48 hours that knocked out power across three southern Iranian ports.

Juffair sits on Manama's eastern waterfront and has hosted the US Navy's forward headquarters in the Gulf, Naval Support Activity Bahrain, since the 1990s; the base commands the Fifth Fleet's area of responsibility, spanning the Gulf, the Red Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean.

It has already been struck directly at least twice, in the IRGC's 5-6 June two-country salvo that also hit Kuwait's Ali Al Salem air base, and again on 28 June alongside a strike that killed a Qatari civilian, making it one of the war's most repeatedly targeted single sites.
