Evian

Evian-les-Bains (not to be confused with the Evian mineral water brand, which takes its name from the town) is a small resort on the French shore of Lake Geneva in the Haute-Savoie department, best known for its spring water and as the site of the 1938 Evian Conference, at which 32 nations met to discuss Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and largely declined to act. In June 2026 the town served as the venue for the 52nd G7 leaders' summit, 15-17 June, under the French presidency, the principal gathering of the governments of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States in the year the Iran-Hormuz conflict dominated the international agenda.

The 2026 summit was convened against the backdrop of the US naval blockade of Iran, the stalled US-Iran deal, and the 11 June CENTCOM strike on the tanker MT Settebello that killed three Indian sailors.
