Evian

Évian-les-Bains is a small resort on the French shore of Lake Geneva, in the Haute-Savoie department. It is best known for its spring water, which gives the Évian mineral water brand its name, and for the 1938 Évian Conference, where 32 nations met to discuss Jewish refugees from Nazi Germany and largely declined to act.

From 15 to 17 June 2026 the town hosted the 52nd G7 leaders' summit under the French presidency. Leaders opened with Ukraine at the top of the agenda and agreed to tie further Russia sanctions to progress in peace talks. On 17 June their statement on geopolitical issues welcomed the announcement of a deal between the United States and Iran.

The summit also hosted side business. India's Narendra Modi met Donald Trump there on 17 June to raise the 11 June US strike on the tanker MT Settebello, which killed three Indian sailors. In the same week the European Commission moved to freeze the Russia oil price cap at $44.10 a barrel until January 2027.
