Economic Fury
Treasury's continuous Iran financial-warfare campaign, having frozen ~$500m in crypto and disrupted tens of billions.
Economic Fury is US Treasury's own label for its continuous Iran sanctions campaign. Its most recent round, on 7 August 2026, designated 35 shadow-banking entities, extending a run of pre-war-authority designations Congress has not had to reapprove.

Iran Conflict 2026Background
Economic Fury is the label US Treasury applies across a run of OFAC sanctions releases targeting Iran's finances, not a single statutory instrument. Its legal basis is Executive Orders 13224, 13382, 13902 and 13949, all pre-dating the 2026 war and consolidated under National Security Presidential memorandum 2.
The campaign's largest single action to date froze close to 500 million dollars in regime-linked Cryptocurrency, designating the exchanges Nobitex, Wallex, Bitpin and Ramzinex. It runs alongside the Rewards for Justice programme, which offers tip payments of up to 15 million dollars.
Because Economic Fury operates on standing, pre-war authority rather than a new presidential order, Treasury can keep designating targets through periods when no other Iran policy instrument moves, treating crypto rails, shadow-banking networks and physical infrastructure such as Hormuz toll authorities as equally valid targets.
Economic Fury needs no new signature
OFAC's most recent Economic Fury round designated 35 entities and individuals over Iran's shadow-banking network on 7 August 2026, gazetted a week later with designee names locked inside scanned image files invisible to text search. It continues a pattern set by the Persian Gulf Strait Authority designation on 27 May and nine China and Hong Kong entities on 10 June.
None of those rounds needed a new executive order: all run on Executive Orders 13224, 13382, 13902 and 13949, consolidated under NSPM-2 before the war began. The Federal Register logged zero new Iran filings between 29 June and 2 July even as designations continued.
