Background
Ali Mohammad Naeini served as Brigadier General and official spokesman of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran's elite military force founded after the Iranian Revolution of 1979 and answerable directly to the Supreme Leader. As spokesman, he was the IRGC's primary public voice, issuing operational statements, rebutting foreign claims, and framing the corps' actions for domestic and regional audiences.
Naeini was killed in a dawn airstrike on Tehran on 20 March 2026, the fourth senior Iranian figure killed in a single week. Minutes before the strike he publicly denied US claims that Iranian missile production was down 90%. The IRGC condemned the killing as a "criminal cowardly terrorist attack." Intelligence Minister Esmail Khatib was among those killed in the same period.
The killing of four commanders in one week raised acute questions about Israeli intelligence penetration of the IRGC. Despite the losses, the corps launched its 70th wave of Operation True Promise 4 within days. Naeini's final denial of missile degradation remains a symbol of The Information war running alongside the military campaign.
