Jazan refinery

Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery, which processes about 400,000 barrels a day, roughly 4 per cent of the company's daily oil and liquids output, was hit by a Houthi strike on 24 July 2026 that started a large fire. NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System logged five new thermal anomalies in the refinery's eastern half, corroborating the fire independently of the Houthi claim.

The refinery is 100 per cent Aramco-owned, sits within the Jazan Economic City industrial complex about 70km north of Jazan city centre, and reached its full 400,000 b/d capacity in March 2023 as part of a $21 billion, export-oriented complex that also includes an associated power and desalination plant. Its output is a meaningful slice of Aramco's downstream capacity rather than a marginal one.

Neither Aramco nor the Saudi Energy Ministry has issued any statement on whether the fire affected production or exports, so the operational effect remains unreported rather than confirmed as nil. A fire of this size would ordinarily surface first in tanker loading schedules off Jazan rather than in a company statement, making the shipping queue the more reliable early signal.
