Jazan

Jazan (also spelled Jizan) is a Red Sea industrial city in southwestern Saudi Arabia, close to the Yemeni border. Houthi forces struck the city on 24 July 2026, hitting a facility operated by Saudi Aramco and starting a large fire; NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) logged five new thermal anomalies in the eastern half of the refinery, corroborating the fire independently of the Houthi claim.

Jazan is the capital of Jazan Province, home to about 201,000 people in the city and roughly 1.4 million across the wider province, and one of Saudi Arabia's principal southern Red Sea hubs. It sits on a global shipping corridor and has been built up around the Jazan Economic City industrial zone, which includes Aramco's integrated refinery, an associated power plant, and the Port of Jazan. Its position near the Yemeni border has repeatedly put it within range of Houthi missile and drone strikes since the wider Red Sea conflict widened beyond shipping lanes.

The strike extends the Houthi campaign from tankers in the Bab al-Mandab to fixed Saudi infrastructure, testing whether Riyadh's Red Sea coastline stays a secondary front or becomes a direct target list alongside Yemen's own war-battered ports. Neither Aramco nor the Saudi Energy Ministry has said anything about production or export impact, leaving the effect unknown rather than confirmed as nil.
