Lebanese Health Ministry

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health is the Lebanese government's central body for public health policy, hospital regulation, and national health statistics. During periods of armed conflict it serves as the primary official source of casualty figures, compiling reports from hospitals and civil defence across the country and issuing end-of-day tallies that are cited by international media and UN bodies.

The ministry operates under persistent resource pressure from Lebanon's economic collapse and recurring displacement crises. Its casualty-tracking function has become internationally prominent during Israeli military operations: on 19 June 2026, the ministry issued the end-of-day count of at least 47 Lebanese civilians killed in Israeli strikes on roughly 80 Hezbollah sites in South Lebanon and Beirut, the deadliest day on the Lebanon front since the Islamabad MOU was signed the previous day .

As the official Lebanese state source for conflict casualties, the ministry's figures are the primary reference used by foreign governments, UN agencies, and international news outlets when reporting on Lebanese civilian harm. Its tallies are distinct from Hezbollah's own casualty reporting and from IDF statements.
