DeepState, the Ukrainian open-source mapping project, recorded only Russian advances in its map updates on 17-21 October1. The changes came near Matiasheve, Svitle, Novyi Donbas, Krynychne and Vilne, and inside Rai-Oleksandrivka on 21 October. The week before, the same project had recorded Ukraine retaking three villages.
Radio Svoboda reported on 21 October that the grey zone round Dobropillia, which Russia's Defence Ministry claims to have taken, now forms a semicircle2. Mapping projects use the term for ground that neither Army firmly holds.
