P-8

The P-8 Poseidon is a US-built maritime patrol and anti-submarine aircraft, adapted from a commercial airliner and flown by the US Navy and allied air forces for surveillance, submarine hunting and search operations over water. Delivered to the US Navy from 2012, it is also flown by allied navies including the UK, Australia and India.

The IRGC's Operation Nasr-2 claim of 20 July said P-8 surveillance aircraft at Aqaba Airport in Jordan were heavily damaged alongside C-17 transports.

As with the rest of the claim, this is uncorroborated: it comes solely from Press TV, Iran's state broadcaster, and no US, Jordanian or Kuwaiti source has confirmed any aircraft losses at the base. It forms part of a wider IRGC claim, also including 20 destroyed hangars and dozens of American casualties, none of which has been verified independently.

If confirmed, damage to P-8 aircraft would matter for surveillance and maritime patrol coverage over the Gulf and Red Sea, a capability the US has relied on throughout the war; that stake is exactly why an unverified claim of this kind should not be treated as fact. Until an independent source corroborates it, the claim belongs to Tehran's account of the war rather than to the confirmed record.
