Background

The US Embassy in Amman warned Americans on Sunday 19 July to stay away from Aqaba's airport and seaport over threats to both. Jordan's government said no such threats existed; Iranian missiles landed in the area hours later, and Aqaba's airport was operating again by Monday.

Aqaba is Jordan's only seaport, on the Red Sea in the country's FAR south. It carries the bulk of the kingdom's seaborne trade and much of its coastal tourism, and sits beside Aqaba Airport, a separate site with its own history in this war.
