C-17

The C-17 Globemaster III is a large US-built military transport aircraft used to move troops, vehicles and cargo over long range, including into austere or forward airfields. First delivered to the US Air Force in the 1990s, it remains the primary heavy airlifter for the US and several allied air forces, including the UK, Australia, Canada and Kuwait, whose own air force also flies the type.

The IRGC's Operation Nasr-2 claim of 20 July said C-17 transports at Aqaba Airport in Jordan were heavily damaged in a strike alongside P-8 surveillance aircraft.

The claim is uncorroborated: it comes solely from Press TV, Iran's state broadcaster, and no US, Jordanian or Kuwaiti source has confirmed any aircraft losses at the base. It forms part of a wider IRGC claim, also including 20 destroyed hangars and dozens of American casualties, none of which has been verified independently.

If confirmed, the loss of C-17 airlift capacity at a forward base would matter operationally, since the aircraft is used to move troops, vehicles and cargo into and out of theatre; that is precisely why an unverified claim of this kind should not be treated as fact. Until an independent source corroborates it, the claim belongs to Tehran's account of the war rather than to the confirmed record.
