Hans Grundberg

Hans Grundberg issued fresh alarm on 24 July 2026 over resumed Houthi attacks in the Red Sea, speaking alongside UN Secretary-General António Guterres the same day. The warning came the same day the Saudi-led Coalition struck Houthi military sites around Hodeidah and the Houthis hit Jazan industrial city in response.

Grundberg, a Swedish diplomat, has served as UN Special Envoy for Yemen since 2021, mediating between the internationally recognised government and the Houthi movement through years of on-off Ceasefire efforts that predate the current Iran conflict.

His role gives him a standing line into both the Houthis and Riyadh, making his interventions a rare channel for de-escalation language when the wider war has pushed Yemen's own conflict back toward open exchange of strikes.
