The Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), the main Republican Senate super PAC (political action committee), gave $2.7m to Plains PAC on 5 October, according to SLF's own filing1. Plains PAC filed its first spending in Kansas's Senate race, $1.59m against Adam Hamilton, the Democratic challenger, on 25 October2. SLF has built the same kind of state-named committee in Nebraska, Maine and Alaska, each of which spent against Democrats.
Plains PAC enters a race where Republicans trail on money. Democratic-side groups filed $36.05m in reports received from 1 to 26 October, against $13.59m for Republicans, about 2.7 to 1. Lower Costs Now added $7.37m on 24 and 25 October alone; across the month it has reported $5.82m against Roger Marshall, the Republican senator, and $4.48m for Hamilton. WinSenate's $8.14m of ads against Marshall from 10 October is part of the Democratic-side total.
The party committees show the same tilt. The DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee) spent $1.96m with Hamilton from 1 to 14 October, up from $0.37m in September3. The National Republican Senatorial Committee again reported none with Marshall, whose campaign Hamilton outraised by $8.27m to $618,222 in the third quarter.
