The plaintiffs in DSCC v. Trump, led by the DSCC (Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee), asked Chief Judge James Boasberg in a filing on Friday 23 October for expedited discovery, the pre-trial exchange of evidence, Democracy Docket reports1. They want the defendants' answers by 28 October. The request seeks government communications about demands that election officials remove voters, or refuse or not count ballots.
Seven Democratic plaintiffs filed the suit on 20 October. They allege that the administration of Donald Trump intimidated state election officials in breach of Section 11(b) of the Voting Rights Act and the Constitution; the defendants include the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. The allegations have not been tested in court, and the timetable the plaintiffs ask for would put any records in their hands days before the 3 November vote.
