Evergreen Marine Corporation is a Taiwanese container shipping line founded in 1968 by Chang Yung-fa and headquartered in Luzhu, Taoyuan. It runs a fleet of more than 200 vessels on global trade routes, ranks among the world's largest container carriers and is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange (2603). It belongs to the wider Evergreen Group, which also spans aviation, hotels and logistics.
The line has twice stood at the centre of a chokepoint crisis. Its Ever Given grounded in the Suez Canal in 2021 and blocked the waterway for six days. In June 2026 an Iranian drone hit its Ever Lovely in the Hormuz corridor.
Evergreen also takes part in navigation technology trials. In August 2026 it signed a memorandum with the classification society ClassNK, Samsung Heavy Industries and Weathernews for a crewed commercial navigation trial; the agreement describes a test, not an autonomous voyage.
Evergreen's ship takes a drone hit
On 25 June 2026 Iran launched four drones at the Ever Lovely, an Evergreen Marine container ship using the SAFE corridor in the approaches to the strait of Hormuz. US forces brought down three; the fourth hit the ship. Every CREW member escaped injury and the vessel sailed on.
Iran picked Evergreen's ship out of the traffic. The Revolutionary Guards had rejected the corridor that morning, yet five South Korean ships crossed the same day without attack. The strike made a Taiwanese carrier the target of choice in The Gulf, and it became the trigger for the first US airstrike on Iran since the Islamabad memorandum.
