Rheinmetall, Croatia's DOK-ING and Britain's Pearson Engineering showed the DOK-ING MV-8 Komodo at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris (15 to 19 June), the first uncrewed mine-breaching system built on a next-generation uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) 1. The Komodo carries Pearson's RCV-Pioneer mine plough and lane-marking gear; a Rheinmetall PATH autonomy kit is slated to let later versions run semi or fully autonomously. Breaching a minefield has always meant sending a soldier or a crewed vehicle into the one place nobody wants to be. Handing that task wholesale to a robot, rather than using the robot to assist a crew that stays in the danger zone, is what makes the Komodo a step rather than an iteration. The compressed timeline is the second tell: a six-month run from concept to demonstrator is the cadence of a market pulling hardware forward, not a procurement office specifying it.
That pull has a source. Pearson is sending two of its Threat-Sense artificial-intelligence mine-detection systems to Ukraine for live evaluation, after NATO trials logged better than 95% detection 3. Ukraine's accelerating ground-robot buying is the demand signal European primes are racing to meet, and a live battlefield evaluation gives a detection system the operational reference a controlled trial cannot.
