Scala Data Centers operates data-centre infrastructure in Brazil and is building the AI City campus at Eldorado do Sul. The campus places the company in Brazil’s expanding market for computing facilities that need large and dependable electricity supplies.
Its current project has a defined route to The National transmission grid. Aneel’s 10 September authorisation covers a 120-megawatt connection from January 2028, linking the campus’s development timetable to a formal power milestone.
Brazil’s Redata regime provides a wider policy setting for data-centre construction. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed Lei 15.504 on 15 September with tax breaks for eligible data-centre and AI builds, alongside a water-use limit retained by the Senate.
AI City gains grid connection
On 10 September, Aneel authorised AI City, Scala Data Centers’ planned campus at Eldorado do Sul, to connect to Brazil’s national transmission grid. The approval sets a 120-megawatt connection from January 2028, giving Scala a stated power route for a project it is building rather than an operating capacity today.
Brazil’s Redata law, signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on 15 September, created tax breaks for data-centre and AI construction while retaining a water-use limit of 0.05 litres per kilowatt-hour. The law shapes The National setting for Scala’s campus, but no project-specific benefit for Scala is identified.
