Eldorado do Sul is a municipality in Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state, within the Porto Alegre metropolitan area on the Guaíba River. Its relevance now rests on its role as the proposed location of Scala Data Centers’ campus, which received a national-grid connection authorisation on 10 September.
The municipality was severely affected by the 2024 Rio Grande do Sul floods. That setting gives infrastructure decisions particular local weight, because major development must coexist with a flood-affected riverside community.
The planned 120 MW connection from January 2028 places Eldorado do Sul within Brazil’s expanding data-centre infrastructure debate. It identifies the municipality as a future grid-connected site, while leaving construction, operation and local effects to later evidence.
The campus gains a grid link
On 10 September, Brazil’s grid regulator authorised Scala Data Centers’ campus in Eldorado do Sul to connect to The National transmission system. The access plan provides 120 MW from January 2028, linking the site to the 525 kV Guaíba 3 to Nova Santa Rita line.
For Eldorado do Sul, the commitment gives a defined power route to a proposed data-centre campus rather than merely identifying the municipality as its location. The connection remains scheduled for January 2028, so the regulatory decision does not itself show that the campus has been built or begun operating.
