Colombia is a South American republic with its capital at Bogotá. Its Foreign Ministry, the Cancillería, runs the Visa system, including the Type V route for digital nomads. Colombia holds an elected seat on the UN Security Council in 2026.
Medellín draws more foreign remote workers than any other Colombian city. Roughly a quarter of the flats sold there go to foreign buyers, and a one-bedroom flat in El Poblado rents for $450 to $750 a month against a typical local income near $638. On 21 August the city's Tourism Secretariat gathered the duties of a legal short let, from a National Tourism Registry entry to fire-safety certification, into one checklist.
Rejected Visa applicants often return on chains of tourist stays, keeping pressure on rents without gaining residence status. Colombia's national Visa rules and its cities' housing rules therefore act on the same demand.
Colombia sets a 31 October visa deadline
Practitioner tracking, not a government release, put the rejection rate for Colombia's Type V digital nomad Visa at roughly 42% in 2025, the highest of any major nomad scheme. For 2026 the monthly income floor rose about 23%, in step with the minimum wage, to roughly $1,400 to $1,450, and health cover must now include medical repatriation; travel insurance no longer qualifies.
The ministry has since turned to long-settled foreigners. Its 15 September notice gives anyone still on a legacy permanent-resident Visa until 31 October to re-register under today's rules, without saying what happens to those who miss it.

Jhon Arias scored the only goal against Ghana in Kansas City on 3 July, with Colombia holding 61% of possession and out-creating Ghana 2.06 to 0.26 on expected goals. The run ended in the round of 16 on 7 July, when Switzerland won a penalty shootout.
