The Cancillería, formally the Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Colombia, is Colombia's foreign ministry. Based at the Palacio de San Carlos in Bogotá, it runs diplomatic relations, consular services and Visa issuance, including the Type V digital nomad Visa, through its online portal.
The ministry decides Visa applications but publishes little on its decisions. Practitioner tracking put Type V refusals at roughly 42% of applicants in 2025, and the ministry has published no official figures to confirm or correct that. For 2026 the Type V income floor rose 23% to about $1,400-1,450 a month, indexed to the national minimum wage.
It also manages the transition between Visa regimes. Holders of older permanent-resident visas must move onto the current regime by 31 October 2026. Migración Colombia, an agency attached to the ministry, handles border control and enforcement separately from Visa decisions.
Cancilleria tightens its residence visa rules
Practitioner tracking put the 2025 rejection rate for the Cancilleria's Type V digital nomad Visa at roughly 42%, the highest of any major nomad Visa. For 2026 the income floor rose 23% to about $1,400-1,450 a month, indexed to The National minimum wage. The ministry has published no official breakdown of Type V approvals and refusals.
The foreign ministry has also turned to clearing out older Visa categories. It set 31 October 2026 as the Deadline for holders of old permanent-resident visas to transfer onto the current regime. Its notice names no penalty for missing the date, leaving long-term foreign residents to act without knowing what lapse would cost them.
