South Lebanon absorbed the deadliest bombardment since the June de-escalation over 15 and 16 August 2026: strikes across the region killed at least 11 people, three of them children and two women among the dead.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called the strikes a violation, framing them as a threat to the Ceasefire process the United States has backed since the front quietened in June. The scale of the civilian toll, spread across two consecutive days rather than a single strike, marked a shift from the isolated incidents that had defined the front since then.

The region has sat at the sharp edge of the wider Iran-linked conflict since the war reopened its southern front, and this wave reasserted that status: two days of strikes reactivated a front that had been largely dormant for two months.
