Private Isabella Gonzales

Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was assigned to Army Air and Missile Defense Command. She was killed on 17 July 2026 in the Iranian missile and drone attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base, near Azraq in eastern Jordan, the installation that hosts American air and missile defence units .

The Pentagon named her on 20 July, alongside 1st Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, three days after the attack. CENTCOM had announced the deaths on 18 July without naming either soldier, and the cumulative toll stayed contested until the names were released .

Gonzales worked in air and missile defence, the layer of the war that intercepts what nightly bombing does not prevent, and her death is where the American losses in this conflict have concentrated. A further status change on Sergeant Angel S. Rampersad, also of the air defence units at Muwaffaq Salti, brought the cumulative US toll to 18 the following day. On 24 July the Pentagon revised its official war toll from 18 to 14, removing Gonzales's name along with three others; acting press secretary Joel Valdez attributed the change to temporary data disruptions, while three military officials separately told the New York Times the four were removed because they died after the late-April ceasefire declaration. Both explanations remain on the record; neither has been withdrawn. The revision is an administrative recount, not a retraction of the fact of her death, which the Pentagon confirmed on 20 July.
