Angel S. Rampersad

Sergeant Angel S. Rampersad, 28, of Ozone Park, New York, served with the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, the unit that operates ground-based air defence at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. He was carried as Duty Status Whereabouts Unknown for four days after the Iranian missile and drone attack on the base on 17 July 2026. On 21 July, the Pentagon updated his status to believed to be deceased .

That status change is a presumptive finding, not a confirmation. It is distinct from the deaths of Private Isabella Gonzales and 1st Lieutenant Tyler James Feehan, who were confirmed killed in the same period and named a day before Rampersad's status changed . Recovery and identification at the site are ongoing; CENTCOM recovered unidentified remains at Muwaffaq Salti on 19 July, and forensic confirmation had not been completed as of 21 July .

Rampersad's case brought the cumulative US military death toll in the Iran war to 18. Lowdown had previously reported the toll at 17, following the Pentagon's count at the time; this briefing corrects that figure.

On 24 July, the Pentagon's official toll fell from 18 to 14, removing Rampersad along with three other service members killed earlier in July. Acting press secretary Joel Valdez attributed the change to temporary data disruptions; three military officials separately told the New York Times the four were removed because they died after Trump's late-April Ceasefire declaration. Neither explanation has been withdrawn, and no wrongdoing has been established on the record.
