Hussein Hassan Romani

Hussein Hassan Romani served as Hezbollah's head of aerial defence, responsible for the organisation's anti-drone and anti-aircraft systems in Lebanon. He was killed on 7 May 2026 in an Israeli Defence Forces airstrike on the Dahiyeh neighbourhood of Beirut, the densely populated southern suburb that serves as Hezbollah's administrative heartland . Romani died alongside Ahmad Ghaleb Balout, commander of the elite Radwan Force, and Muhammad Ali Bazi, chief of intelligence for the Nasr regional division. The IDF described the strike as targeting command figures actively directing attacks against Israeli troops in southern Lebanon.

Romani's killing is part of an IDF campaign that the military says has eliminated more than 220 Hezbollah operatives since the 16 April Lebanon Ceasefire. The 7 May Dahiyeh strike was the first Beirut strike in approximately one month and the highest concentration of senior Hezbollah command casualties in a single event since November 2025 . His death as aerial defence chief removes the officer responsible for the systems designed to detect and intercept Israeli drones, at a moment when the Lebanon Ceasefire extension forms one of the seven heads of the US MOU currently sitting unread in Tehran. Hezbollah's restrained response indicated low-to-medium southern Lebanon rocket and drone activity with no Israeli casualties.
