Iran Conflict 2026Background
The Energos Winter is a floating storage and regasification unit owned by US firm New Fortress Energy and flagged in the Marshall Islands. It converts imported Liquefied Natural Gas back into gas for pipeline delivery, a function that made it a fixed part of Egypt's gas-import infrastructure at Damietta before the 29 July strike knocked out roughly 450 million cubic feet a day of regasification capacity, about 7% of Egypt's daily gas consumption.
As a US-flagged commercial vessel damaged in an Egyptian port with no attacker publicly named by any government, it now sits at the intersection of shipping insurance, Egyptian energy supply and the wider dispute over who is striking targets beyond the war's original combatants.
