Background
Connecticut is a New England state on Long Island Sound, with a population of roughly 3.6 million and its capital at Hartford. On 13 July 2026 Attorney General William Tong joined a 12-state Coalition suing in the Northern District of California to block the $110bn Paramount Skydance acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, arguing the merger would combine two of Hollywood's five major film distributors and two of the five major basic cable operators.
Connecticut elects five members to the US House and two US senators. Tong framed the Coalition as filling an antitrust-enforcement gap Left by a Department of Justice he called distracted and uninterested under the Trump administration.
The state has no independent history in the media-AI-pivot cluster beyond this suit; its role here is as one of twelve co-plaintiff states pursuing the same antitrust theory as its neighbouring states.
