Nebius takes AI capacity in Newport
Data Centres: Boom and BacklashBackground
Bro Tathan is a Welsh Government-owned site in the Vale of Glamorgan, on the former RAF and MoD St Athan airfield, transferred from military to civilian control in April 2019.
It is one of three locations, alongside Newport and Bridgend, that Vantage Data Centers has named in its ambition to build more than 1 GW of AI-ready capacity across south Wales. Vantage announced on 13 August 2026 that Nebius, the first named tenant of the South Wales AI Growth Zone, will take capacity at its Newport CWL1 campus instead.
Bro Tathan itself has no publicly confirmed tenant or capacity figure of its own; its role in Vantage's programme remains a site on the map rather than a signed deal.
