Data Centres: Boom and Backlash: Nebius takes AI capacity in NewportBackground
Vantage Data Centers is an international data-centre developer and operator headquartered in Denver, Colorado, running sites across multiple continents.
Nebius became the first named tenant at Vantage's CWL1 campus in Newport on 13 August 2026, under a deal disclosed jointly by both companies . Vantage itself has put no megawatt or GPU figure on the lease; the only capacity number attached to its Welsh programme is its own longstanding target of more than 1 GW of AI-ready capacity across Newport, Bridgend and Bro Tathan.
CWL1 predates the deal: the campus has operated since 2010 and carries a rating of up to 148 MW of critical IT load, giving Vantage an established site to fill rather than a greenfield build.
