Nebius takes AI capacity in Newport
Data Centres: Boom and BacklashBackground
CWL1 is Vantage Data Centers' campus in Newport, south Wales, operational since 2010 and rated up to 148 MW of critical IT load. It sits within the wider South Wales AI Growth Zone, alongside Vantage's other sites at Bridgend and Bro Tathan.
On 13 August 2026, Vantage announced Nebius will take high-density capacity there, the first publicly announced commercial commitment in the zone. Neither company disclosed a megawatt or GPU figure for the lease; the only public capacity figure is Vantage's own target of more than 1 GW across its three-site South Wales programme.
Vantage markets the campus on 100% certified renewable electricity matching and closed-loop cooling, positioning it as a low-carbon option for AI tenants.
