UK Local Elections 2026Background
Bangor Conwy Môn is a six-member Senedd constituency created by the Senedd Cymru (Members and Elections) Act 2024. Its boundaries take in Anglesey, northern Gwynedd, most of Conwy county borough and part of western Denbighshire.
Its first election, on 7 May 2026, produced a turnout of 53.85%. Plaid Cymru polled 31,057 votes and won three seats; Reform UK took two on 19,440, and the Welsh Conservatives one on 8,555. The six members are Rhun ap Iorwerth, Mair Rowlands and Huw Williams for Plaid Cymru, Helen Jenner and Thomas Clark for Reform UK, and Janet Finch-Saunders for the Conservatives.
The constituency's weight in Cardiff Bay outruns its size, because it returns both the First Minister and Reform's leader in Wales.
One constituency elects both rival leaders
Rhun ap Iorwerth, one of three Plaid Cymru members for Bangor Conwy Môn, became First Minister on 12 May 2026, ending 27 years of Labour-led Welsh governments. Two Green MSs supplied the votes without a written agreement.
On 21 September 2026 Reform UK's Senedd group made Helen Jenner, WHO won Reform's first seat in the constituency, its leader in Wales after Dan Thomas resigned. The next day ap Iorwerth's government presented its six priorities for 2026 to 2030 to the Senedd. The north-west seat therefore supplies the two figures WHO will face each other most often across the chamber.
