Background
Bandar-e Lengeh was among ten military targets struck by CENTCOM overnight on 27 June 2026, alongside Sirik and Qeshm Island. The raid specifically targeted Iran's minelayer vessels, destroying the ships Iran had been using to re-mine the Strait of Hormuz.
Bandar-e Lengeh is a port city in Hormozgan Province on Iran's Persian Gulf coast, roughly 175 kilometres west of Bandar Abbas. Its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz gives it strategic value as a maritime staging area. The port historically served commercial shipping and fishing; military assets there gave Iran a forward position for Hormuz mine-warfare.
By striking Bandar-e Lengeh and nearby sites, CENTCOM aimed to tip the Ceasefire's 30-day demining obligation in Washington's favour, removing Iran's capacity to re-mine the strait faster than it can be cleared. The targeting signals US willingness to strike inside Iranian territory to enforce Hormuz freedom of navigation.
