Augusta

Augusta, the Sicilian refining and port hub, is one of the Mediterranean landing points now squeezed by a record-low Fujairah light distillate print and a doubling of Med Aframax freight in the week to 20 July.

Sited on Sicily's eastern coast, Augusta handles crude imports and product exports for the wider Mediterranean refining chain, leaning on Suez-routed cargoes to backfill light-distillate shortfalls. Cross-Mediterranean Aframax freight, the tanker class that carries those shorter Suez-dependent legs, doubled to $151,308 a day over the same week.

With Fujairah's spare product buffer thinning and the Suez-routed backfill leg growing costlier, the availability risk from the wider Gulf disruption is landing on Mediterranean hubs like Augusta rather than on Gulf loading itself.
