UKMTO, the British naval office that takes security reports from merchant ships in the region, issued a "verified, time-late report" on 26 October1. An unknown projectile had disabled a tanker outbound through the Strait of Hormuz at 08:39 UTC on Friday 23 October; the crew were safe.
The alert reached masters three days after the hit, so ships that crossed the strait in that window had no UKMTO notice of it. Two days before the strike, UKMTO had reported a tanker hit off Bukha in Oman.
