On 5 September the Guard claimed strikes on six vessels while naming no hull and no position . Naming one changes the claim's status. A hull number is checkable: a damaged destroyer goes somewhere for repair, and port calls, dry-dock bookings and commercial satellite passes over Bahrain or Jebel Ali are all outside the US Navy's control. A vague claim survives scrutiny by offering nothing to scrutinise. A specific one starts a clock, and the clock has been running since Wednesday.
