Drones: Industry & DefenceBackground
Terra Drone is a Tokyo-listed Japanese maker of industrial and interceptor drones. Its work spans drone traffic management, agriculture, inspection and surveying alongside defence products. The Terra B1 places the company in Japan’s effort to develop interceptor drones for domestic use.
Founded in February 2016, the company is headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, and is led by founder and chief executive Toru Tokushige. Its operations extend beyond Japan to Belgium, Indonesia, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
Terra Drone’s durable significance lies in combining civilian industrial-drone work with a potential domestic defence role. Japan’s defence ministry requested funding on 31 August for its first interceptor-drone line, while Terra Drone said its Terra B1 had passed the relevant fast-track trial. No interceptor contract had been published in the available evidence.
