Sohrab Ahmari

Sohrab Ahmari is an Iranian-American writer, editor, and political commentator born in 1985 in Tehran. He emigrated to the United States as a teenager, converted to Catholicism, and built a career as a right-wing intellectual, serving as op-ed editor at the New York Post before co-founding Compact magazine in 2022. Ahmari is associated with a strand of post-liberal conservatism that backs state intervention in the economy while rejecting liberal social norms.

Ahmari endorsed Donald Trump in 2024, aligning himself with the MAGA Coalition. When the Trump administration launched its Iran military campaign, Ahmari publicly broke ranks, declaring that Trump 'was never the one' to break with hawkish Foreign Policy, as the Coalition fractured over the $200 billion war funding request.

The break reveals a core tension in post-liberal conservatism: its economic nationalism sits uneasily alongside the Republican Party's interventionist Foreign Policy establishment. Ahmari's public dissent positions him among nationalist voices warning that open-ended war risks converting economic gains into Stagflation before the 2026 midterms.
