Slavko Vincic has been appointed referee for Sunday's Spain-Argentina final, with two Slovenian assistants and Jordan's Adham Makhadmeh as fourth official. He becomes the first Slovenian to take charge of a World Cup final.
Born on 25 November 1979, Vincic began refereeing in Slovenia's top domestic league in 2007 and earned his FIFA badge in 2010. He has since taken charge of major continental fixtures including the 2022 UEFA Europa League final, the 2024 UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, and a Euro 2024 semi-final. This is his second World Cup, having officiated two group games at Qatar 2022.
Vincic has refereed Spain four times without defeat but has taken charge of Argentina only once at a World Cup, their shock 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in Qatar. The final arrives shadowed by a post-semi-final controversy over England's Jude Bellingham and Argentina's Valentin Barco.
