Serhii Koretskyi

Serhii Koretskyi has been Prime Minister of Ukraine since 16 July 2026, when 289 members of the Verkhovna Rada voted for his appointment. He replaced Yulia Svyrydenko, whose resignation the Rada had accepted on 14 July.

His first budget sets the frame for 2027. The draft he sent to Parliament on 15 September gives defence 4.885tn hryvnias, which he put at nearly 44% of economic output, with partners expected to ADD at least 1tn hryvnias of weapons in kind. The chair of the Rada budget committee said security and defence would take 66.8% of planned spending, and Koretskyi said Ukraine "can only cover part of its expenditures through its own revenues". The rest depends on foreign money arriving on time. The EU's €90bn Ukraine Support Loan made its first budget-support payment, €800m, on 2 October.

Before he entered government, Koretskyi was chief executive of Naftogaz, Ukraine's state energy company. In that POST, in March 2026, he presented the EU with a plan to repair the Druzhba oil pipeline, which Volodymyr Zelenskyy said would take a month and a half with EU funding.
