US Midterms 2026: Sabato's 11 moves include Kiggans's seatBackground
Missouri's 2nd congressional district is a US House seat in the western and southern suburbs of St Louis. Under the 2022 map it takes in all of Franklin and Warren counties and parts of St Louis and St Charles counties. Republican Ann Wagner has held it since January 2013.
The district's boundaries were at the centre of Missouri's 2025-26 redistricting fight. The 2025 map, HB 1, would have reshaped it in Republicans' FAVOUR; the 2022 map, kept in place by the US Supreme Court in September 2026, leaves it more open. Across the state, the 2022 lines are expected to elect six Republicans and two Democrats, against seven and one under HB 1.
Its suburban make-up means forecasters watch it for signs of a national swing towards Democrats.
The district's lines decided its rating
Which 2nd district Missourians vote in was settled only in late September 2026. The 8th Circuit had ordered the state onto its 2025 map, HB 1, on 21 September; four days later the Supreme Court stayed that order and left the 2022 lines in force.
The difference shows in the seat's rating. On the 2022 boundaries the district is more competitive than the version HB 1 would have created, and on 29 September Sabato's Crystal Ball moved it from Likely to Leans Republican. The August primaries that chose its nominees had been run on the 2025 map, so the general election is fought on different ground from the contests that produced the candidates.
