US Midterms 2026Background
Ann Wagner is the Republican US Representative for Missouri's 2nd congressional district, which covers suburbs of St Louis. She was first elected in 2012 and took her seat in January 2013. In The House she has sat on the Financial Services Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
Before Congress she was a senior Republican Party figure: chair of the Missouri Republican Party, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and US Ambassador to Luxembourg under President George W. Bush. Her legislative record includes FOSTA, the 2018 law aimed at online sex trafficking.
In 2026 the outcome of Missouri's map litigation decided which version of the district she defends.
Wagner's seat lost its new protection
The 2025 map Missouri's legislature drew would have given Wagner a safer district. When the US Supreme Court kept the state on its 2022 lines in September 2026, she was left defending the older, more competitive version of the 2nd district against Democrat Fred Wellman on 3 November.
Forecasters responded within days. On 29 September Sabato's Crystal Ball moved her race to Leans Republican, one of 11 House contests it shifted towards Democrats that day. She remains the favourite on that rating, but the seat is now among those forecasters treat as competitive.
