Kronstadt is a Russian port city and naval fortress on Kotlin Island in the Gulf of Finland, 30 km west of St Petersburg. Founded by Peter the Great in 1704, it became the Baltic Fleet's principal home base and a UNESCO-listed historic fortress site. Its coastal-defence network of forts and seawalls was critical in defending Leningrad during World War II.
On 6 June 2026, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces struck Kronstadt's naval dry dock with more than 400 drones, setting the corvette Boikyi on fire. The attack demonstrated Ukraine's ability to reach Russian home-water facilities at distances exceeding 1,100 km. Russian air defences, which had not previously faced concentrated long-range drone raids this FAR into Baltic territory, failed to prevent the strike.
