Jon Husted is a Republican US senator for Ohio. He took office in January 2025 after Governor Mike DeWine appointed him to fill the seat vacated by JD Vance on becoming vice-president.
Before entering the Senate, Husted served as Ohio’s lieutenant governor from 2019 to 2025. He had previously been Ohio secretary of state from 2011 to 2019.
His Senate seat is subject to a 2026 special election. Outside Republican spending was already directed at Husted’s race on 2 June, when Americans for Prosperity Action reported Ohio expenditure supporting him and opposing Sherrod Brown.

On 2 June, Americans for Prosperity Action filed $1.75m in Ohio Senate independent expenditure supporting Jon Husted and opposing Sherrod Brown. The filing put money behind Husted’s special-election defence rather than his campaign committee, making outside groups a direct part of the contest for his seat.
By 20 September, the National Republican Senatorial Committee had spent $45.9m across Senate races while the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee held a larger cash balance. That national funding contest matters to Husted because Ohio is among the races where Republican groups have already committed independent spending.
