Iran Conflict 2026: Mentioned in: Iran's parliament claims the strait tooBackground
The Islamic Consultative Assembly News Agency (ICANA) is the Iranian Parliament's own news wire. It reported on 16 August 2026 that the Majlis National Security Commission had met to discuss management of the Strait of Hormuz, the same day Majlis Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran had won the war "both militarily and politically".
As the Parliament's official channel, ICANA's report is the primary public record of the Commission's involvement, making the Commission a third Iranian institution, alongside the executive and the diplomatic track, publicly asserting a role over the strait's future. Any settlement over Hormuz now has to be read against three separate Iranian institutions each on record with a stake in it.
