Iranian Interior Ministry

The Iranian Interior Ministry is the Cabinet department responsible for domestic administration across the country's provinces. It links central government to provincial, county and district officials. Official governorate guidance describes provincial governors as senior state representatives who carry out national policy and coordinate public bodies within their territory.

The ministry also organises elections through a national election headquarters and layers of local administration. Other bodies supervise candidates and certify results, so election administration is not the same as final electoral oversight. The same provincial network coordinates public administration and carries national policy from Tehran to governors, counties and districts. It also relays local reports to the central government.
