Background

Getty Images licenses editorial and commercial photography, video and illustration to publishers, broadcasters and brands worldwide.

Brussels published its initial signatory list for the AI content-marking code on 31 July 2026, and Getty appears twice: once among the 82 providers, once among the 152 deployers. No other media-adjacent name managed both. The duality suits a business that licenses source imagery and also ships generative tools built on it.

Every broadcaster, streamer and studio is missing from that same list, which leaves picture agencies and tool vendors as the only part of the visual-media supply chain to have accepted the standard before Article 50 took legal effect on 2 August 2026.

Key Issues
AI marking code

Getty signed both halves of the code

Getty Images appears twice on the signatory list Brussels published on 31 July 2026, once as a provider and once as a deployer, alone among media-adjacent names in doing so. The two halves carry different duties: 82 firms signed for building generative systems, 152 for putting them to work. Getty does both, licensing source imagery and shipping generative tools on top of it. The wider list carried no broadcaster, streamer, studio or sports rights-holder anywhere, and neither Runway nor ElevenLabs appears at all.
