Two Dynacom Tankers vessels, the Kavomaleas and Acheloos, were hit by unclaimed projectiles inside the Strait of Hormuz on 19 and 20 July, with no party claiming responsibility for either strike.
Dynacom, the Greek tanker company owned by shipowner George Prokopiou, has become the only major shipping firm still routinely transiting the strait during the conflict. It has sent a fifth tanker, the Smyrni, through with its AIS transponder switched off and armed guards on deck, chartering vessels at roughly $440,000 a day, about four times pre-war rates.
No other major shipping company has followed Dynacom's lead, leaving it an outlier absorbing a war-risk premium the rest of the market has declined to price at any Charter rate.
