Autonomous Systems: Land & Sea: ARX delivers first GEREONs to UkraineBackground
DEUTZ is a German engine maker headquartered in Porz, Cologne. Nicolaus Otto and Eugen Langen founded it on 31 March 1864 as N. A. Otto & Cie, often described as the first factory dedicated solely to internal combustion engines. It makes diesel engines and components for agricultural, Marine, construction and automotive uses.
In October 2025 DEUTZ signed a strategic partnership with ARX Robotics to put its drive systems, including battery-electric drives, into ARX's Unmanned Ground Vehicles. The partnership moved into production in 2026 at the DEUTZ plant in Ulm, and the first GEREON robots reached Ukraine on 29 September 2026.
The shift makes DEUTZ one of the industrial firms outside the traditional arms sector now building military equipment in Germany.
DEUTZ turns engine lines to robots
On 29 September 2026 DEUTZ and ARX Robotics handed over the first GEREON Unmanned Ground Vehicles for Ukraine. DEUTZ builds them at its Ulm plant, where production had started 12 weeks earlier.
For DEUTZ the deliveries put its October 2025 partnership with ARX into service: the engine maker supplies drive systems, including battery-electric drives, and now also the factory floor. Neither firm has stated how many robots were delivered or what Ukraine paid, and ARX has not published the size of its business. ARX issued four announcements in four weeks, covering Poland, Britain and a partnership with Roboneers, which gives DEUTZ's Ulm line a wider market than Ukraine if those deals turn into orders.
