Timeline for Ulm

Autonomous Systems: Land & SeaBackground
Ulm became a production site for uncrewed ground vehicles in 2026: DEUTZ and ARX Robotics delivered the first GEREON robots built at the DEUTZ plant there to Ukraine on 29 September, 12 weeks after series production began.
Ulm is a city of about 130,000 people on the Danube in Baden-Württemberg. Its minster spire, at 161.53m, is one of the tallest church towers in the world, and Albert Einstein was Born there in 1879. The city has a long record in heavy transport: Magirus fire engines and lorries come from Ulm, and the 500,000th air-cooled DEUTZ diesel engine left the Ulm plant in 1978.
Ulm is also a centre of German defence electronics. Hensoldt's Ulm site, with roots in Telefunken, AEG and EADS, employs more than 3,000 people on radar and security electronics. The robot line adds uncrewed ground vehicles to that base.
Ulm builds ground robots for Ukraine
DEUTZ and ARX Robotics delivered the first GEREON ground robots from the DEUTZ plant in Ulm to Ukraine on 29 September 2026, 12 weeks after series production began there. Neither firm has published a quantity or a price.
The line puts uncrewed ground vehicles into a city whose industry already spans engines, lorries and defence electronics. DEUTZ has built diesel engines in Ulm for decades, and Hensoldt runs a radar site there with more than 3,000 staff. The GEREON work came in a month of four ARX announcements covering Poland, Britain and a partnership with the Ukrainian maker Roboneers, so the Ulm line is the production end of a growing European network rather than a one-off order.
