Autonomous Systems: Land & Sea: Onomichi to build Bulwark robot landersBackground
Bulwark Dynamics is a US startup designing autonomous landing craft. Its Caravel is meant to carry containerised cargo to unimproved shorelines, drive onto a beach, unload and retract, without a port, pier or crane, and to work where GPS is denied. The company raised a $6.8m seed round in September 2026 from SBI US Gateway Fund, Archetype Ventures, Nēnē Ventures and Onomichi Dockyard.
Onomichi Dockyard, a Japanese yard and one of those investors, will build the Caravel-35, a 35ft landing craft with a bow ramp, and the smaller Caravel-15, Naval News reported on 21 September 2026. With its first 35ft prototype still under construction, Bulwark is pitching an output of several dozen craft annually to American and allied militaries.
The aim is contested logistics: resupplying forces across a shoreline an adversary can strike, without exposing crews or relying on fixed port facilities. No production craft exists yet, so the performance claims are Bulwark's own.
